Before running S-58 Edition 7.0 validation tests, you must ensure that the ENC has the correct spatial geometry and that any S-58 geometry related tests will produce reliable results.
Chain-node topology
To ensure clean chain-node topology:
1. Activate main product data layer.
2. Run these QC Tests individually or together:
• Invalid Geometry – Options: none.
• Overlapping Edges – Options: not applicable.
• Redundant Edges, Points & Soundings – Options: none.
3. Review the validation report.
If any issues are reported, correct them, then repeat these tests until no issues remain.
Skin of the Earth
To ensure topology is correct for Skin of the Earth area features:
1. Create a filtered layer containing Skin of the Earth area features and make it active.
2. Run these QC Tests individually or together on the filtered layer:
• Intersecting Edges – Options: enable Check by Feature Class (default).
• Overlapping Areas – Options: enable Ignore administrative attributes (default).
3. Review the validation report.
If any issues are reported, correct them, then repeat these tests until no issues remain.
If any corrections a made, repeat both sets of prerequisite tests until no issues are reported in either set of tests.
4. Close the filtered layer.
All remaining checks will be performed on all data in the main product data layer.
