Temporary Change Features

A temporary change feature is used to support a notice to mariners, if an existing feature needs to be changed temporarily, For example, a light feature might be temporarily extinguished or a buoy moved.

Temporary change features are geographic features with attributes and geometry, and are related to existing features.

The attributes or geometry, or both, of the temporary change feature override the attributes or geometry of the related existing feature for a set period of time.

The attributes of a temporary change features are:

Start date (startDate): The start date of the temporary change. This is mandatory.

End date (endDate): The end date of the temporary change. This is mandatory.

Attributes to override (attsToOverride): The attributes, if any, of the related feature that need to be overridden by the temporary change feature. This is not mandatory since it is possible that only the position of the feature is being temporarily overridden.

Example 1

If a LIGHTS object will be extinguished between Jan 1 and Jan 15 2019, the temporary change feature would have the following attributes defined:

Attribute

Definition

startDate

20190101

endDate

20190115

attsToOverride

STATUS,INFORM:

STATUS = 11,7 (extinguished, temporary)

INFORM = <any necessary information>

Example 2

A temporary notice may indicate that a buoy is temporarily moved. The temporary change feature would be created at a different location.

Create

Create a temporary change feature using the Create Temporary Change command.

1. Open a product.

2. Select the Create Temporary Change command.

3. Set the start date and end date.

4. Modify the attributes or geometry of the temporary feature.

By default, the new temporary change feature will use the same geometry as its related feature. The temporary change feature can be moved, if required.

By default, the attributes defined by attsToOverride will contain the values of the related feature. You can change the attribute values in the Attributes window.

5. Save and export the product.

If you reopen the product between the start and end date, the original feature will take on the attributes and geometry of the temporary feature. If you open the product before or after the defined time period, the feature will have its original attributes and geometry.

The temporary change feature will not be deleted after its end date. You will have to delete it manually.

Export

When the product is exported all current temporary changes will be applied to the related features. The original features in the product will not be changed. Only the exported file will contain the applied changes.

If the current date falls between the start and end date of the temporary feature, the change will be applied.

A summary of temporary additions, deletions and changes will be displayed the Output window:

2 temporary addition(s) applied.

3 temporary deletion(s) applied.

5 temporary change(s) applied.

1 temporary addition(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.

2 temporary deletion(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.

2 temporary change(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.

If a change is not applied, a message like this will be displayed:

1 temporary addition(s) applied.

1 temporary change(s) not applied because the start/end date is out of range.
