HPD users and user groups can be created and modified in a directory service, such as Windows Active Directory or Apache Directory Server. These users and user groups can then be accessed though an LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) for import into HPD.

HPD users created from the LDAP import use external authentication. This requires that Oracle 12c be configured to use the network's authentication mechanism. Earlier versions of Oracle cannot be linked to directory services.

The LDAP entries are linked to HPD using the CARIS Batch ImportLDAP process, as illustrated below:

The CARIS Batch process, ImportLDAP, copies the user group structure to HPD. A configuration file defines object classes and attributes of the directory service. This file is read by the ImportLDAP process.

Roles can be assigned to user groups through the Admin Tools application. See Assign User Roles.

Users created using the LDAP import will use Windows credentials to connect to HPD.

See Oracle 12c documentation on how to configure Oracle and Windows credentials
